1999, Chris Marker, 55 mins
In one of his most personal works, Marker combines film clips, journal entries and personal speculation to illuminate the life and work of Russian master filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. Marker's collage of scenes and images from Tarkovsky's films is characteristically masterful and illuminating, but his footage of Tarkovsky at work (on the tortuous last sequence of The Sacrifice) and on his deathbed are the most moving.
