从海报到艺术

《高雅的艺术》《希望的艺术》《围攻的艺术》三幅丝网版画创作于1988年，是公认的艺术家从应用艺术转向纯艺术的标志性作品，也是肯特里奇艺术创作的开端。《高雅的艺术》是艺术家对死于安逸的艺术形式的寓言，《希望的艺术》表达了对艺术影响的盲目乐观，而《围攻的艺术》则展示了所谓的“艺术力量”背后的空虚。肯特里奇从未回避过自己对于政治性艺术的关注。而其戏剧的兴趣，以及日后创作的艺术语言均在这组作品中有所体现。艺术家沿用了其为剧院设计海报所用的棕色纸，穿插在画面中的标语及文字令人联想到南非及俄国的政治运动，以及随之产生的文化。
